Cognitive Hypnotherapy
What is cognitive hypnotherapy?
Cognitive hypnotherapy is a person centred therapy. Our understanding is that each person experiences their struggles in their own unique way, so the approach should be unique to them too. Rather than following one fixed method, it draws on a range of therapeutic disciplines, including cognitive behavioural therapy, neuro linguistic programming, solution focused therapy and more. This gives us a toolkit of techniques so we can find what works best for you.
I see therapy as a collaborative process. You and I are working as a team. Cognitive hypnotherapy gives us the flexibility to find the approaches that fit you best, always trying to get to the root of the problem and seeing where that takes us.
No two sessions look the same, because no two days for you will look the same. Whilst I may have a plan in mind, I will always be flexible and work with whatever comes up.
As a herbalist as well as a cognitive hypnotherapist, there may be occasions where I suggest something herbal to support your work in therapy. This is always your choice and only ever offered when it feels genuinely relevant.
I offer a complimentary 15 minute discovery call before we begin, so we can get to know each other and you can get a sense of whether I feel like the right fit for you. Initial sessions are 1 hour 30 minutes and 1 hour thereafter. I work both in person in Hampstead and online via Zoom.

In cognitive hypnotherapy we understand trance as an everyday state. When you're in a flow state at work, when you daydream, when you're driving and suddenly realise you've arrived at your destination without remembering the journey. These are all trance states. We move in and out of them naturally, multiple times a day. What is important is that you are in control throughout, just as you are in the examples above.
In fact, a cognitive hypnotherapist's job is often to take people out of trance. Fear, for example, can be understood as a trance state which takes control. A cognitive hypnotherapist will work to bring you out of that state and give that control back to you.

Every person is different, and we will work at a pace that feels right for you. Some people find what they need in a handful of sessions, others prefer to work together over a longer period. There is no set number .
-
Our work together will start before our first session. After our discovery call, I will send you a questionnaire to complete so that I can better understand you and your needs.
Our first session will be spent exploring what you would like to work on and what changes you would like to see. From there we will work together to figure out the best way forward.
Between sessions, I may sometimes suggest exercises or techniques to practice. I may also create personalised recordings for you to listen to.

Cognitive hypnotherapy is not suitable for everyone. If you have certain medical conditions, including epilepsy, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychosis or certain personality disorders, it may not be appropriate for you.
